Dad Mentality: Dedicated to Kobe & GiGi – Dads Are Cool Too!

Dad Mentality: Dedicated to Kobe & GiGi

I always say your children are watching your every move so make it count. You’re a role model whether you want to be one or not. I think one of the best examples was Kobe Bryant and his daughters. His hard work and dedication to everything he did trickled down to his children.

Kobe Bryant was one of the fiercest competitors to ever live! I am a Phoenix Suns fan and I could not wait for us to play the Lakers in the playoffs so I could talk crap to one of my best friends Lance because he was the biggest Kobe fan in the world. Steve Nash was my guy so we would meet up and watch the games. I always had a high respect for Kobe for the way he carried himself and respected the game. You can see he put 1000% into every play of every game and how every possession really mattered to him.

We fast forward 10 years and Kobe Bryant retires and I can't imagine seeing basketball seasons without Kobe. But what I didn't know was I was about to see my favorite side of Kobe that I didn't see a lot of during his career. Kobe took Mamba Mentality and showed me Dad Mentality. I saw him take all the passion and love for the game and put that into being a dad and mentor to his family and friends. When watching interviews with people speaking about Kobe they always talk about all of the gems Kobe passed onto them without them even asking. He loved to share his knowledge and you can tell he was transferring his basketball mind and competitive spirit to his beautiful daughter Gigi

I have 2 daughters and watching Kobe with Gigi gave me hope that women's sports would start getting the love and respect that they deserve. Awesome athletes competing at high levels and deserving everything from putting their all into their crafts. My favorite memory of Kobe Bryant memory went from seeing crazy fadeaways and dunking on someone to him being courtside with Gigi teaching her and giving her the play by play from his perspective and how to incorporate that into her game.

I always wanted my children to play sports and to be great at it. But I know that if they chose dance, music, or academics over sports I would put my 1000% into helping them achieve their goals. You can tell Kobe didn't force his children to play sports and that's something I love about the relationship you can see someone that looked at their dad as a role model and decided on their own they wanted the same legacy. Let you children decide their dreams and then apply Kobe's Dad Mentality to making sure you assist them in their every move on their way to greatness.

Rest in Peace Kobe and Gigi Bryant
